Chandrayaan-3, India's third lunar mission, was successfully launched from Sriharikota's Satish Dhawan Space Centre on July 14, 2023. On the Moon's South Pole, which has never been investigated, the project plans to soft-land a lander and rover. A significant turning point in India's space programme was the launch of Chandrayaan-3. Since the Chandrayaan-2 mission in 2019, it had been India's first effort to soft-land a spacecraft on the Moon. Just before it was supposed to touch down, the Chandrayaan-2 lander, Vikram, lost contact with ground control.
India has a chance to make amends and make a significant scientific advancement with the Chandrayaan-3 project. Water ice can be found in abundance at the Moon's South Pole, making it a potential site for future manned lunar exploration. The lander, rover, and orbiter make up the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft. While the rover investigates the lunar surface, the lander will soft-land on the South Pole of the moon. While collecting data and transmitting communications between the lander and rover, the orbiter will continue to circle the Moon.
On August 23, 2023, the Chandrayaan-3 mission is slated to touch down on the moon. If the mission is a success, it will be a significant milestone for India's space programme and open the door to further lunar exploration by people.
