After days of demonstrations and blockades on the Delhi-Chandigarh route, farmers in Haryana have finally ended their protest. The state government has accepted their demand for the minimum support price (MSP) for crops. The farmers' protests were in opposition to the central government's new agricultural rules, which they believed would adversely affect their livelihoods.

Throughout the protest, traffic congestion stretched for miles on the motorway. However, the farmers persisted in their demands and continued their camp on the highway until the government agreed to their requests. This victory is being hailed as a significant achievement for the farmers and those who have been fighting for their rights for months.

Farmers' Protest Ends After Haryana Government Agrees to MSP Demand

On Tuesday, agitated farmers, who had blocked the Delhi-Chandigarh national highway near Pipli for two days, ended their protest after receiving assurances from the Haryana government regarding a fair price for their sunflower crop. Rakesh Tikait, the leader of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU), stated that the government has also decided to drop the charges against the farmers.

Tikait expressed, "We are ending this protest. Today, the closed highways will be reopened. Our protest was to secure MSP for our crops. We will continue advocating for MSP across the country. Our leaders will be released soon. The cases against our leaders will be withdrawn."

A resolution was reached during a meeting with government representatives later in the evening. The government agreed to purchase sunflower seeds at MSP, and the farmer leaders who were detained in Shahabad would be released.

Last week, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar provided an interim payment of Rs 29.13 crore to 8,528 farmers for sunflowers cultivated on 36,414 acres. Under the "Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana" (price difference payment scheme), the state government is offering Rs 1,000 per quintal as interim support for sunflower crops sold below MSP, as reported by PTI.
