STATUE OF UNITY
THE WORLD'S TALLEST

The Statue of Unity: A Beacon of Hope for a Unified India

With a height of 182 metres (597 feet) The Statue of Unity is the tallest statue in the world. It is situated close to Kevadia in Gujarat, India. It features the statesman and freedom leader Vallabhbhai Patel (1875–1951), a supporter of Mahatma Gandhi who served as India's first deputy prime minister and home minister after independence. Patel is well-known for taking the initiative to bring the 562 Indian princely states together to form the Union of India. The statue is situated 100 kilometres (62 miles) southeast of the city of Vadodara in Gujarat, on the Narmada River in the Kevadiya neighbourhood, near the Sardar Sarovar Dam.

With a total construction cost of 27 billion (US$422 million), the project was first announced in 2010 and building began in October 2013 by the Indian business Larsen & Toubro. On October 31, 2018, the 143rd anniversary of Patel's birth, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the sculpture, which was created by Indian sculptor Ram V. Sutar.

It took several years to finish the statue, which was created by Indian artist Ram V. Sutar. It shows Vallabhbhai Patel carrying a staff and donning traditional Indian garb. Since Patel was instrumental in the union of more than 560 princely states into the Indian Union after independence, the project aimed to recognize his contributions to the unity and integration of India.

An extensive engineering and architectural approach was used to build the Statue of Unity. Since then, the statue has grown to be a popular tourist destination, luring travelers from all over the world, including India. The location also has a museum, an exhibition space, and a viewing room that offer details on Patel's life, accomplishments, and the background of the Indian independence movement.

It is important to note that the statue's building has elicited both support and opposition. Supporters see it as an homage to a revered leader and a source of national pride, but detractors have expressed worries about the project's resource distribution and the relocation of nearby villages.
