During his recent visit to Manipur, Home Minister Amit Shah undertook crucial security assessments and engaged in dialogue with representatives from the Kuki and Meitei communities. The Centre is expected to establish a judicial investigation committee, led by a former Supreme Court judge, to delve into the recent violence in the state. Muan Tombing, the general secretary of the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF), revealed this likelihood.
Throughout his visit, Shah met with the Manipur cabinet, Kuki tribal elders, security personnel, and government officials, emphasizing the government's commitment to restoring law and order. Relief measures and efforts to resolve the persisting ethnic tensions were also discussed during these meetings.
Senior government officials confirmed that the Home Minister would conduct multiple security meetings to assess the situation comprehensively and devise strategies for restoring normalcy. Among those he met during his tour were Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, and Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Kumar Deka. Governor Anusuiya Uikey was also among the dignitaries Mr. Shah engaged with in Imphal.

Shah's visit encompassed various regions deeply impacted by recent unrest, including Imphal, Churachandpur, Kangkokpi, and Moreh. Moreover, he interacted with civil society groups representing the Meitei, Kuki-Zo, and Nagas communities.
In a positive development, Monday saw no reports of violence, marking a contrast to the previous day. However, Imphal-based NGOs have warned that peace in the state may remain elusive until authorities take decisive action against drug dealers and poppy growers in the hills surrounding the Imphal Valley.
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity, an organization based in Imphal, stressed the urgency of addressing narco-terrorism, asserting that lasting solutions cannot be achieved unless both the State and Central governments take immediate measures to uproot these criminal elements.
With the Home Minister's visit and the proposed judicial inquiry commission, there is hope that the situation in Manipur will be diligently addressed. The engagement with various communities and stakeholders serves as a crucial step towards fostering peace and harmony in the region. It is now essential for the authorities to follow through with effective actions and initiatives to restore tranquility and stability to Manipur."
